- Mar.24.2018: Undercover police helped create blacklist of workers. Undercover police officers infiltrated trade unions and fed information to the Construction Industry, which used it to blacklist construction workers, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, the police watchdog, has found. The illegal list, maintained by a company called the Consulting Association, was active between at least 1993 and 2009. Files seized by the Information Commissioner's Office reportedly include phrases such as "will cause trouble, strong TU (trade union)", "ex-shop steward, definite problems" and "Irish ex-army, bad egg". Dave Smith, secretary of the Blacklist Support Group, said that he had waited six years for the news, since the first complaint was made to police. John Simpson, The Times.
